HEMP – let your dogs eat it, drink it, and comfort themselves with it!

Here’s why I love it and want everything that is made from it:

In the world of Agriculture, hemp’s ‘bast’ fibers, found in the bark of the plant's stalk is known for it’s ability to withstand any type of wear and is extremely sustainable.

States such as, Colorado, Vermont, California, and North Dakota have received licenses to plant and harvest hemp. And I am sure it is going to make a major comeback in the industrial world.

Hemp is so much more than a sturdy base material for spiral patterned necklaces with big glass beads attached one might see at a Grateful Dead concert. Actually, before the outlawing of hemp in the 1970’s, the plant’s fibers were traditionally woven into canvases for ship sails and covers for pioneer wagon covers.

The North American Industrial Hemp Council and other hemp advocates believe that this plant has the potential to manufacture 25,000 products. Hemp is an ideal base for bible paper, underwear, biofuels, burgers, concrete, and makeup; just to name a few. Maybe some manufacturers in the U.S. are purposely looking over hemps potential because of its durability factor may extend the life of their products too far, which reminds me! I need to find myself a camp chair made out of hemp. I swear most camp chairs are made to only last a few trips until essential parts began to rip and the backing starts to disintegrate, same goes for canopies! A few quick facts and a look at some of the dog friendly hemp products everyone can benefit from:

-"A 2000 year-old hemp-rope toupé was found in Sichuan, China," which means you'd only purchase one tug toy every couple of hundred years if its made out of hemp!

TUG-A-HEMP NATURAL DOG TOY

-Hemp is 4x warmer than cotton, 4x more water absorbent, has 3x the tensile strength of cotton, and many times more durable. It is also flame retardant and a dynamic insulator, so it will keep your dog cool in the summer, too.

-Un-dyed hemp fabric is unsusceptible to rotting will not rot and exposure to sunlight will not cause it to fade.

-Hemp is anti-microbial, anti-mildew, and naturally UV resistant.

HARRY BARKER STRIPPED HEMP BED

-Hemp fibers don’t degrade during washes or wear out, Hemp only wears in.

-Hemp is safer than cotton and better for the environment. Cotton farms damage soil and require a ton of hazardous fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides to be plentiful.

-Fabrics made from hemp breathe well and allow for optimal moisture wicking. (This tip is for humans because dogs don’t sweat!)
